ALIGNED AK streamlines the complexities of commercial furniture procurement

Like many entrepreneurs, ALIGNED AK’s president, Kael Ladegard, was working from home during the COVID lockdown. And like many entrepreneurs, it gave him time to reflect on where he was in his career and where he wanted to go in life. His conclusion? He needed to take his 20 years of experience in project management and control his own destiny. ALIGNED AK was born.

ALIGNED AK specializes in commercial furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF+E) procurement. As a certified project manager, Kael specializes in facility planning, supply and logistics.

Kael’s team streamlines the process of commercial interiors procurement, saving clients time and money. “We do this by aligning with their vision, goals and team to provide exceptional turnkey project services,” Kael says. “We assist architects, interior designers, and business clients who are planning commercial projects like renovations, relocations, tenant improvements and new construction.”

An Alaskan through and through

A lifelong Alaskan and UAA graduate, Kael worked for 20 years in the commercial interiors industry in Anchorage. He is a husband and father of two little girls, and is active in his community and church.

Kael started his career as a furniture planner at a local office supply company, which led him to become a certified project manager. “It was at this point when I began to view the project holistically, and I developed a passion for organizing the complete interiors package,” he says. “I have learned how to integrate my knowledge and expertise into a framework of creative professionals and truly find my place in the industry. This natural progression led me to create ALIGNED AK—an organization built to serve the community and bring value to those around me.”

A typical project for ALIGNED AK has many moving parts. “A client required a large volume of demountable partitions (floor-to-ceiling premanufactured glass walls and doors) installed in a very tight timeline,” Kael recalls. “I realized that the key to success was to control every aspect of the process. I worked independently with the factory to schedule phased shipments, managed freight consolidation in Seattle and created a detailed installation work plan so I could track progress in real time. This allowed me to maintain open communication with the client team at every stage of the process and ultimately meet their timeline for occupancy.”

Coworking makes sense for ALIGNED AK

Once the COVID lockdowns eased, Kael realized he couldn’t reach his vision from his kitchen table. He decided to move his operation to Cowork by RSD on New Year’s Day in 2022. “This is more than a ‘space’; it truly is a community of creative professionals,” he says. “Humans are social animals and we need an environment with a pulse. I wouldn’t want to go lease an office suite and sit in a sterile room with no interaction with others. But every day I love to wake up and come in to Cowork. It’s difficult to describe but I feel like I belong. When you’re a small business owner that is so important, and even as my business grows this will continue to be a great place for my team.”

ALIGNED AK is different

Kael and his team emphasize a personalized approach to each project.

“We don’t prescribe solutions,” he says. “Instead, we listen and leverage our collaborative procurement process to help our clients realize their vision for the future of their space. We are 100% transparent; there are no unexpected dealer fees or hidden dealer markups.

“We give our clients complete control over the budget while enabling them to move into their space faster.”
